Stephen and his dog Evie are waiting on your story. Please share it here today.
We are all still becoming.
Welcome to Your Becoming began with a simple belief: people need places where they can be seen, heard, and understood.
This is a growing human-stories and book project about who we have been, what life has asked of us, and who we are still becoming.
Your life does not have to be extraordinary to be worth telling.
It began as a 100-day conversation.
Welcome to Your Becoming began as a 100-day journey of listening, reflecting, asking questions, walking, interviewing people, and inviting others to share the experiences that have shaped their lives.
Some stories arrive through long interviews. Some arrive in a few sentences. Some begin with grief, illness, disability, friendship, faith, love, loneliness, caregiving, relationships, purpose, work, identity, or change. Others begin with an ordinary moment that suddenly reveals something important about being human.
The project is intentionally broad because becoming is broad. No life fits neatly into one category.
The stories and reflections gathered through this journey are helping shape a future Welcome to Your Becoming book while also creating an ongoing public conversation about connection, identity, meaning, well-being, resilience, and the lives we are still creating.
Being seen. Being heard. Being understood.
Many of us spend years moving through our responsibilities without being asked the deeper questions.
What changed you?
What are you carrying?
Who helped you become who you are?
What have you lost?
What still matters?
Who are you becoming now?
Welcome to Your Becoming creates room for those questions.
It is not about presenting perfect lives or polished answers. It is about listening closely enough to discover the meaning inside real lives — including the unfinished parts.
There is no single kind of becoming.
The project welcomes voices across different ages, places, beliefs, professions, relationships, cultures, and life circumstances.
Stories may involve love, grief, family, friendship, loneliness, disability, health, caregiving, faith, doubt, work, purpose, aging, resilience, identity, loss, recovery, joy, regret, or simply the ordinary moments that quietly change us.
Some contributors may choose to be fully identified. Others may use a first name, a pseudonym, or remain anonymous. The goal is not exposure. The goal is honest human understanding.
A book being discovered through the stories themselves.
Welcome to Your Becoming is being developed differently from a traditional book written entirely behind a closed door.
The conversation comes first.
Stories are being gathered, interviews are being conducted, reflections are being written, and themes are being allowed to emerge from real lives before the final manuscript takes shape.
The resulting book will explore what it means to become across a lifetime — not as a neat formula, but through human experiences of identity, connection, adversity, purpose, relationships, faith, well-being, loss, growth, and legacy.
The people who participate are not simply an audience for the book. Their voices are helping reveal what the book needs to become.
Meet Dr. Stephen Rue
Internationally Award-Winning, Best-Selling Author • Distinguished Author Award Recipient • Attorney • Researcher • Speaker
Dr. Stephen Rue has devoted nearly four decades to understanding people, guiding them through life's most consequential transitions, and exploring what enables human beings to discover their purpose, realize their potential, and flourish.
An internationally recognized, best-selling author, attorney, researcher, and speaker, Dr. Rue brings an uncommon combination of professional experience, academic scholarship, and personal insight to the study of human development.
His acclaimed book, MUST: Becoming the Person You Are Meant to Be, has received more than 20 national and international book awards, including the Distinguished Author Award. Through his writing, Dr. Rue explores one of life's most important questions: How do we become the people we are meant to be?
His work is grounded in a central conviction: Our identities are not fixed, our purpose can continue to evolve, and our capacity for growth does not expire with age or circumstance.
A lifetime of understanding people
For nearly 40 years, Dr. Rue has practiced law, primarily in the field of family law, helping thousands of individuals and families navigate some of the most difficult and defining transitions of their lives.
Through his work with people experiencing divorce, family conflict, loss, uncertainty, and new beginnings, he has witnessed the extraordinary complexity of the human experience.
He has seen how a single event can divide a life into a before and an after.
He has also witnessed how individuals can rediscover their identities, rebuild meaningful relationships, develop new purposes, and create fulfilling lives beyond circumstances they once believed would define them.
These experiences helped shape his understanding that personal growth is not simply an intellectual pursuit. It is a lived process that unfolds through our choices, relationships, challenges, and opportunities.
Where scholarship meets lived experience
Dr. Rue holds a Juris Doctor, a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctor of Business Administration in Organizational Leadership.
He has also completed Harvard Law School's Negotiation and Leadership program and pursued advanced studies in well-being and adult development through Harvard Medical School's executive education program.
His additional training includes trauma-informed life coaching through Louisiana State University.
This interdisciplinary background informs his work at the intersection of identity, leadership, human behavior, personal development, relationships, and well-being.
Rather than viewing achievement and flourishing as interchangeable, Dr. Rue explores how a meaningful life emerges when our actions align with our values, our relationships deepen, and our sense of purpose guides the people we are becoming.
The MUST philosophy: Becoming the person you are meant to be
Dr. Rue is the creator of the MUST framework, a personal-development approach centered on the relationship between identity, purpose, intentional action, well-being, relationships, and flourishing.
His book, MUST: Becoming the Person You Are Meant to Be, invites readers to move beyond merely pursuing external success and consider the deeper question of who they are becoming in the process.
The book's international recognition reflects the reach of a message that transcends profession, age, and background: Every person has the capacity to live more intentionally, cultivate meaningful relationships, and continue growing throughout life.
For Dr. Rue, becoming is not a destination we reach once and for all.
It is a lifelong process.
The personal journey behind Welcome to Your Becoming
Despite his professional achievements and years of studying personal development, Dr. Rue's understanding of becoming has also been shaped by deeply personal experiences of love, loss, family, and transition.
Following the death of his mother in December 2025, he began reflecting more deeply on the stories we carry, the relationships that sustain us, and the words we sometimes leave unspoken until it is too late.
Those reflections helped inspire Welcome to Your Becoming.
What began as a personal journey of reflection evolved into a larger invitation: to create a space where people from different backgrounds could share their experiences and discover the extraordinary connections within seemingly ordinary human lives.
Through conversations with people who have experienced grief, resilience, addiction and recovery, family transitions, faith, unexpected kindness, new beginnings, and profound personal change, Dr. Rue has come to appreciate even more deeply that our stories do not exist in isolation.
We become through our experiences.
We also become through one another.
A conversation about being seen, heard, and understood
Welcome to Your Becoming is an extension of Dr. Rue's lifelong commitment to helping people recognize their inherent worth, discover their purpose, and flourish.
The project brings together authentic human stories — not simply accounts of overcoming adversity, but reflections on the full experience of being human.
Some stories concern loss and the courage to continue. Others celebrate love, connection, faith, family, new identities, and unexpected opportunities for growth.
Together, they remind us that every life contains experiences worthy of being heard and that our stories may offer understanding, encouragement, and hope to someone whose path we may never cross.
Dr. Rue's role is not merely to collect these stories. It is to listen, to create meaningful conversations, and to help people recognize that their experiences matter.
He believes that when we make space for one another's stories, we create opportunities for deeper connection, greater understanding, and personal growth.
The journey continues
Today, Dr. Rue continues to write, research, speak, and develop programs dedicated to personal growth, professional well-being, meaningful relationships, and human flourishing.
He is also discovering new dimensions of his own identity and purpose — including his newest role as a grandfather, affectionately known as "Rue-ster."
That experience has reinforced one of the central ideas of his work: Becoming does not end at a particular age or milestone. New relationships can continue to expand our identities, deepen our sense of purpose, and open unexpected chapters of flourishing.
Through his books, research, professional work, and Welcome to Your Becoming, Dr. Rue invites people to consider not only where they have been or what they have accomplished, but who they are becoming — and how their lives can contribute to the lives of others.
Because your story matters. Your becoming matters. And the most meaningful chapters of your life may still be waiting to be written.
Your Story Matters, Too.
Welcome to Your Becoming invites people from all walks of life to share their experiences of love, loss, resilience, connection, and personal growth.
You may submit your story, request a conversation with Dr. Stephen Rue, or choose to share anonymously.
Selected stories may be considered for the Welcome to Your Becoming book or future publications, subject to appropriate permissions and editorial review.
Why this matters to me.
The older I get, the more convinced I become that most people are carrying stories we never see.
I have spent much of my life studying achievement, leadership, identity, purpose, relationships, and well-being. But some of the deepest lessons I have learned have not come from textbooks or courtrooms. They have come from people.
They have come from conversations. From loss. From love. From people rebuilding after life changed. From people caring for someone else. From strangers who became teachers for a few minutes. From people willing to say, "This is what happened to me."
I started Welcome to Your Becoming because I want to listen more carefully.
I want to understand what shapes us, what connects us, what hurts us, what gives us meaning, and what helps us keep becoming.
And I want other people to know that their story matters too.
— Dr. Stephen Rue
Different lives. Different beliefs. A shared human conversation.
Faith is an important part of Dr. Rue's own life, and many contributors naturally understand their experiences through faith or spirituality. Others do not.
Welcome to Your Becoming does not require contributors or readers to share one belief system. People are invited to speak honestly from their own experience and worldview.
The goal is not uniformity. It is understanding.
The questions are becoming as important as the answers.
What does it mean to feel truly known by another person?
Who can you confide in?
What relationship needs more attention?
What has changed the way you see your life?
What do you still want to do while you are here?
What do you want the people you love to know today — not someday?
What part of yourself are you still becoming?
These questions appear throughout Welcome to Your Becoming because sometimes a good question opens a door that advice cannot.
There is room for your story here.
You do not need a dramatic life story.
You do not need to be a professional writer.
You do not need to know exactly what your experience means yet.
If there is something from your life that deserves to be remembered, understood, shared, or simply spoken aloud, we would like to hear from you.
Your life deserves to be seen. Your story deserves to be heard. And you deserve to be understood.
