Nothing happened today that anyone would write down. I drove somewhere. I ate lunch. I had a conversation I will probably not remember next week.
And yet.
There was a moment in the afternoon when the light came through the window at a particular angle and landed on the table in a way that made me stop. Not because it was beautiful, exactly. Because it was so completely ordinary and I was, for once, paying enough attention to notice it.
I have been thinking about how much of a life is made of days like this. Not the landmark days — the graduations, the diagnoses, the losses, the arrivals. The Tuesdays. The unremarkable afternoons. The light on the table.
If we only count the days that feel significant, we miss most of our lives. The ordinary Tuesday is not a placeholder for the important day that is coming. It is the thing itself.
“The ordinary Tuesday is not a placeholder for the important day that is coming. It is the thing itself.”
A question for you
What happened today that you almost did not notice?
